Rabindrasadan Girls’ college is one of the leading women-colleges of Assam. Since its inception of 1962, it has been catering to the educational needs of the girl-students. With the passage of time many changes have taken place but the college retains its mission of imparting education amidst all hardships and hurdles. The college is situated in the heart of the bordering town of Karimganj and is about five minute walk away from the bank of the river Kushiyara, which is the riverine international border dividing India and Bangladesh.

It is the mission of this college to bring about social, economic, moral and value-based upliftment of the people of various parts of Assam and its neighbouring states in general and the people of the District of Karimganj in particular. Initially, it focused on traditional subjects like English, Bengali, Political Science, Economics, Philosophy, Sanskrit, Education and History. With the advent of globalization, it is felt necessity into the introduction of some more relevant courses/subjects. In 2009, Computer Science was introduced at H.S level. In2007, Mass Communication was introduced at T.D.C (Arts) level. In 2010, Commerce Faculty was introduced. In 2011, the college has got approval for opening BCS and Environmental Science and Ecology as two elective subjects in Science Stream along with the already existing subjects like Mathematics, Statistics and Economics. In accordance with the global trend in Higher Education, the college is constantly striving to expand in infrastructural and curricular fronts within its limitations. At present, more than 1100 (eleven hundred) regular students are studying in this college. The college has also Girls’ Hostel and its seat capacity increased at about 150, at present. It is very hygienic and friendly environment.

It’s my great expectation that the students of this college would find a better future prospect under the able guidance and leadership of the teachers of this institution.

I do hope that this college would incessantly march forward to build up the nation by imparting the true sense of education in the minds of the students/young generations.

Last, but not the least, I can never forget the efforts and services rendered by the founding members and well-wishers in the establishment of this institution. I do appreciate their valuable contributions that enabled the society brought into light from darkness, to see a ray of future prosperity.

I wish all my beloved students a success in life.
